Asking for Clarity, Not Just Answers

You’ve probably heard the familiar words: “Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find.”

So often, we take these words to mean that we should ask for what we want in life — more peace, better circumstances, new opportunities, or relief from our struggles. But what if the deeper invitation is not to ask for things, but to ask for clarity?

Each of us walks through life looking out through a set of filters. These filters are shaped by our past experiences, our beliefs, our expectations, and even our fears. They distort what we see and what we hear. We think we’re perceiving the world as it is, but really, we’re experiencing it as it appears through the lens of our own conditioning.

When we ask for clarity, we’re really asking to be free of those filters. We’re asking for fresh eyes to see the truth of the moment, for open ears to hear what lies beneath the surface, and for a still mind that allows wisdom to rise naturally.

Clarity doesn’t just change how we see — it changes how we live. With clarity, we respond instead of react. With clarity, we find compassion where there was once judgment, forgiveness where there was once resentment, and courage where there was once fear.

“Courage is clarity in motion.”

Perhaps the greatest gift we can ask for is not something new from the outside, but the ability to see what has always been here, within and around us.

Here is a simple prayer you might use:

A Prayer for Clarity, Peace, and Courage

May my eyes be cleared of bias and fear,
so I can see life as it truly is.

May my ears be opened beyond noise and judgment,
so I can hear the quiet truth beneath words.

May my mind grow still and my heart at ease,
so wisdom can rise naturally within me.

And when clarity comes,
may I have the courage to follow it—
to choose love when judgment calls,
to forgive when resentment tempts,
to speak with honesty when silence feels safer,
and to rest in stillness when rushing would cause harm.

May I walk this day with open eyes, open ears, and an open heart,
responding not from old patterns,
but from the living presence of truth.

The next time you find yourself asking for something in prayer, meditation, or reflection, consider asking for clarity. With it, everything else falls into place.

I don’t teach techniques, but I do love thought experiments. How about reading this meditation prayer at the start of every morning, before you engage in the world. I have been doing so for the past week and will continue to do so going forward. It has been most interesting what I have experienced.

Please let me know about your experience if you decide to run the experiment yourself. Results may vary, as they say.

With love,

I have been enjoying finding cool videos that highlight my message. I hope you find them inspiring too.

I love the imagery in this video!

I found this one while searching. It contained all three key words! Love it when others share the same thoughts. Is there any original thought? Maybe a subject for another blog post.
