This is that time of year where I start to receive those Christmas Cards from friends and relatives. Inside those precious cards there are sometimes notes from the people that sent them, updating, telling me all about their year, all the things they and their family did and accomplished. Sometimes there messages around how such and such got a new job and how they like it and are doing well. Or they just bought a new house and are just loving the new location and that Sam (I don’t know a Sam) doesn’t have to drive 2 hours to work each day.
It’s also that time of the year where children, big and small start to make those “wish” lists of the things that they would like for Christmas. They usually start out with, “Dear Santa”
I wondered how cool would it be to write a Dear Santa letter that was from the future, in the case 12 months from now.
And how cool would it be to read it 12 months later to discover that all or most or some of those things actually happened.
“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” Napoleon Hill
There have been many books written and workshops developed around the power we all have to change the things in our lives – to actually take control of it rather than have it control us. In my coaching practice I have my clients write out and describe the life they really want.
It has always started with “ask“, followed with “believe” and than “acting” in accordance.
So today I want to this idea with you about the possibility of having a meaningful change in your life for 2018, writing a “Dear Santa 2018” letter.
It may sound silly or feel awkward or you might be telling yourself that “I’m not doing this.” All I’m asking is that you get past that and open yourself to that possibility of creating something new. You really have nothing to loose but a bit of time.
“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This is how you start:
Find a time when you can be by yourself for a short period of time and take out blank piece of paper and write at the top – Dear Santa 2018.
Then begin writing to Santa describing your life 12 months from now. All the things you were able to accomplish, whether it was getting a new job or that you started retirement or moved. Go crazy, don’t hold back and BE SPECIFIC! It’s one thing to write down that you lost weight, it’s another to say, “I lost 20 pounds last year exercising and eating right.”
“If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.” William Arthur Ward
Listen to your heart and keep writing. Don’t worry about the how.
It could be about that house you bought that you have been looking for such a long time. Describe it – 4 bedrooms, with a workshop, etc…
When you feel that you have told your story, in the detail that you are satisfied with; sign it, put it in an envelope and seal it. Write on the front of the envelope, do not open till Dec (whatever date today is), 2018. Put it someplace where you will find it 12 months from now and forget about it. You have already asked for it and took the first step.
“Think of things not as they are, but as they might be… Don’t merely dream… but create..” Robert Collier
So many of us put a BUT in front of the things we really want – stop it – stop it now!
Believe that you are worth everything that you put in your letter.
Acting in accordance is being open to receiving and acting upon those things that come to us that will move us forward in achieving our list. If you find that you are automatically adding a “ya but” you are denying yourself of that chance.
Enough…let’s do it!
I would really like to learn more about your experiences writing your Dear Santa 2018 letter. What you thought, what were some of the feelings that you got while writing it. Did you experience anything different, some new possiblilty?
Add a comment or email me at fourhatscoaching@gmail.com if you got anything from this.
Please share this post with others and give them the gift of possibilities.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers,
Rick
